May our hearts and minds continue to birl away from self and move through the currents of this world, carried by His Word, to the eternal embrace of our Saviour, Christ Jesus.

Cracked Pots

I invited my favourite cracked pot, my mom, over the other day to help with a little something in the labyrinth. We had a fun time talking this particular area through – its intended purpose, the placement, etc. God has soooo richly blessed me with a sweet, Jesus-loving mother!
Months ago my mom gave me a box containing pieces of a clay pot that had belonged to my grandmother. The idea was that one day I could find a use for it…well, we did! It fits right in the perfect spot in the labyrinth, a reminder of repentance and restoration.

Because, you see, we’re all a little cracked! The beauty is in The Potter shaping us…a little crack repair here, a patch up there, a complete re-do from the center! The blessing comes in receiving His work, accepting that there is work to do in me. So, here are a few steps this cracked pot tries to remember to do:

Hold that mirror up!
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
James 1:22-24
Allow Him full access to search our hearts.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Psalm 139:23
Be molded in new ways.
Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are
The Potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8

So, in the labyrinth there is a place for cracked pots! A place to lay our “self” down before Him, yield every little piece to His hand. Big things and little…those shards that have embedded themselves deeply can steer our soul ~ lay them down. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path ~
Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law

and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes
and not toward selfish gain.
Psalm 119:34-36

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow
with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
